Aid for Reconstruction of Cyclone-damaged School Building (October 2020)
Donated Rs. 15,000 to Bibekanda Shishu Shikkha Kendra to help reconstruct the school building which was badly damaged by the super-Cyclone Amphan earlier this year. The school is located in South Barasat, 24 Parganas, West Bengal. For pictures click here.
Helping Committed Student in his Fight Against Poverty (August 2020)
Uttoron endowed a one-time stipend of Rs. 10,000 to Mr. Sanjoy Rabi Das, a fiercely committed student, who just passed Class XII, and is on his way to the college. Click here to feel Sanjoy's fight against poverty, especially compounded by the pandemic.
On 1st July 2020, Uttoron donated books to financially challenged students of Class XII from Motijheel Girls School and Arobinda Higher Secondary School. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the book distribution event was organized in Uttoron's Motijheel, DumDum office. Pictures can be seen here.
Distribution of Relief Items to People Affected by super-Cyclone Amphan (June 2020)
Uttoron distributed relief items to 700 people (200 children and 500 adults) in Kumirmari village, south 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The event was organized on 13th June, 2020, with the help and coordination with Sunderban Mangrove Retreat, Jamespur, Satjeliya Island, Gosaba, and an NGO foundation working in that area. The distributed items were: exercise books and pens for children, and food items including pulses, potatoes, onions, salt, egg, soybean, cooking oil, puffed rice, and various spices. In addition to the local organizers, Uttoron is particularly thankful to Mr. Samir Saha, the proprietor of the Sunderban Mangrove Retreat for providing the needed lodging and boat transportation services. Special thanks also go to Tirthankar, Arpan, Yasmin, Rupa, and Rinku Saha of the NGO foundation for extending their help during the relief distribution efforts. Thanks to Mr. Sourav Dutta, the BDO of Gosaba, for helping towards making the event a success. A few pictures from the event event can be seen here. Book Donation on Teachers Day (May 2020)
In May, on Teachers Day, Uttoron donated books to financially challenged students of Class XII from nearby schools. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the book distribution event was organized in Uttoron's Motijheel, DumDum office. Pictures can be seen here.
Covid-19 Response (April 2020)
As a response to the escalating Covid-19 situation, on 25th April 2020, Uttoron provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and sanitization supplies to Kolkata Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital authorities. 1000 pcs of Surgical Masks and 9.5 liters of hand sanitization liquid were donated. Given the sudden and unusual circumstances around the Covid-19 situation, Uttoron decided to temporarily deviate from its primary focus on education related activities. Scholarship (February 2020)
On 18th February 2020, Uttoron provided a financial hardship scholarship to a class VII student from Kamalapur Kamala Balika Vidyapith. The student's parents are in dire financial situation, and cannot afford her daily home-to-school transportation costs. Uttoron's scholarship is made towards assisting her transportation finance needs. Please take a look at the scholarship giving event.
Book Donation (January 2020)
On 27th January 2020, Uttoron donated books to financially challenged students in Class IX and Class X from two schools: Sri Aurobinda Balika Bidyamondir and Dumdum Sarvodaya Balika Vidyapith, both in Dumdum, West Bengal, India. Twentyeight students from Aurobinda Balika Bidyamondir and sixteen students from Sarvodaya received both text and reference books. Uttoron was registered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with Registration No. S0007182 of 2019-2020. We are in the middle of a fundraising drive that ends in March 2020.
